Government Registration
First and foremost, government registration is required if you want to become an importer or exporter in the country. Usually, the Foreign Trade Government Office of the respective country offers such authorization. For example; in India, the IEC number has to be obtained if you want to operate as a pharmaceutical exporter/ pharmaceutical importer in India. IEC Code is known as ‘Importer Exporter Code’. It is a unique 10-digit code issued by the DGFT – Director General of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce, Government of India to Indian Companies. To import or export in India, IEC Code is mandatory. No person or entity can import or export anything without the IEC Code Number. This process to become an importer is a one-time process. Only one IEC is issued against a single PAN or Aadhar number. Renewal may be required as per the terms and conditions of the foreign trade office.Common Documents Required to Import Pharma Products
If you are a pharmaceutical importer in India, you need to have the following documents in place:- Certificate from Wild Life Protection Board – This certificate is required if any products of imports or exports fall under the regulation list of the Wild Life Protection Board.
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) – No objection certificate from the drug controller is required if you are importing pharmaceutical products.
- Certificate of Origin – This certificate is very important. A certificate of origin (CO) is a document declaring in which country a commodity or good was manufactured. The certificate of origin contains information regarding the product, its destination, and the country of export.
